The young English attacker has followed the Premier League closely this season and is ready to pit his wits against the in-form Dutchman Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho joked he is looking forward to the Nations League in order to test his skills against PFA Players’ Player of the Year Virgil van Dijk. Liverpool defender Van Dijk emerged as the winner of the honour, voted on by members of the Professional Footballers' Association, ahead of five other candidates, including team-mate Sadio Mane, Manchester City stars Raheem Sterling, Sergio Aguero and Bernardo Silva, as well as Chelsea talisman Eden Hazard. Van Dijk has proven a lynchpin in a Liverpool backline that has conceded the fewest goals in the Premier League this season and has them just a point off City in the title race with just two games remaining.The centre-back has not allowed a single player to successfully dribble past him this season, nor has any player managed it since March of last season in the Premier League. And when asked about Van Dijk’s victory, along with that statistic, England international Sancho noted he’ll get a chance to succeed where others have failed when the Three Lions face the defender and the Netherlands in the Nations League semi-finals in June. “Nations League is coming up!” Sancho told Sky Sports with a laugh. “I’ve been watching a lot of Premier League games and I’ve seen him. He’s a great defender. He shows his ability on the pitch and that’s why he’s probably one of the best defenders in the world right now. “It was either Raheem [Sterling] or Van Dijk who was going to win it because both this year’s seasons [for both players] have been fantastic. Their stats speak for themselves and they keep their teams on tip top.”

Ekiti mourns as First Class Monarch, Oluyin dies

The former Chief Judge of Ekiti State and the Oluyin of Iyin Ekiti, Oba Ademola Ajakaye, has joined his ancestors. Oluyin died at the early hours of Friday , according to a palace source. The late Oluyin, who was the first Chief Judge of the State in 1996 at its creation, was at a time the Administrator General, National Judicial Institute (NJI). The town has begun traditional rites since Friday, which includes relocation of market and cutting of trees in the town, denoting the passage of the PeluPelu Oba. Kwara govt confirms new cases of COVID-19

Kwara State Government has confirmed that it has recorded two new cases of COVID-19 in the State. The State Government on its Twitter page said the total number of COVID-19 cases is now 11. Recall that the NCDC, on Thursday confirmed 108 new cases in Nigeria, bringing the total number in the country to 981. It said it recorded 78 cases in Lagos, 14 in FCT, 5 in Ogun, 4 in Gombe, 3 in Borno, 2 in Akwa Ibom, 1 in Kwara and 1 in Plateau State. Kwara government tweeted, ”As at 23 April 2020. Two new COVID-19 cases confirmed ”Total test done – 278, total confirmed cases – 11, no of active cases – 9 ”Discharged – 2, no of negative test – 187, no of pending test – 80, death -0.”
