WE HAVE RELEASED N163BN YET ASUU IS STALLING TO CALL OFF STRIKE-FG

The Federal Government said it has released N163 billion to the universities from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), but striking academics are stalling in calling off their strike. Sen. Chris Ngige, Minister of Labour and Employment, said this while addressing newsmen after a closed door reconciliatory meeting with leaders of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) on Monday in Abuja. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the striking lecturers embarked on strike on Nov. 5, 2018, to press home their demands. ASUU demands included some areas of understanding in the implementation of the Memorandum of Action agreed in 2017. Some of these areas include shortfall in salaries of some Federal Universities’ workers and lecturers, earned allowances, revitalisation that were part of the 2009 agreement, among others. According to Ngige, today we have agreed to fund revitalisation. “Government has released about N163 billion from TETFund account to universities. “So,

PSC also warned police officers on election duties to be on uniform with their names and numbers visible. The Commissioner representing South East Zone and the Organised Private Sector in the commission, Chief Nkemka Jombo-Ofo said this on Tuesday while briefing newsmen in Enugu. Jombo-Ofo said that the directive was for easy identification of police officers by voters, monitors, observers and other stakeholders in the election process. The commissioner urged voters and other stakeholders to hold police officers accountable for their actions that constitute threat for a credible election and report same to the PSC. He said that Nigerians would be provided with hotlines with which to report any erring police officer during the exercise. He said that the PSC would have a situation room in the South East where all reports would be directed during the polls. “The u

The company said considering how robust the operating system was, it regretted seeing it run its course by December 10, 2019. The governing body has confirmed Ligue 1 champions have been fined over their recruitment practices Paris Saint-Germain have been fined €100,000 over issues with the club’s recruitment practices, the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) announced on Tuesday. Ligue 1 leaders PSG were investigated after the team confirmed last November that “forms with illegal content” were used by a recruitment section of the club’s academy. A report by Mediapart and television programme ‘Envoye Special’, following the release of the Football Leaks documents, claimed scouts were requested to document the ethnicity of potential academy signings. General manager Jean-Claude Blanc was among those to give evidence to the LFP’s disciplinary committee, as well as the club’s former sporting director Olivier Letang. PSG conducted their own investigation into player-recruitment practices but their case was closed after finding no discrimination. The LFP, however, confirmed PSG will be fined €100,000 whil

Manchester United have rejected an enquiry from Arsenal for central defender Eric Bailly. Arsenal wanted to take Bailly on loan until the end of the season with a view to a permanent deal in the summer. But United do not want to lose the 24-year-old at this stage of the campaign and have no interest in doing anything that might assist a Premier League rival. Bailly, signed by former United manager Jose Mourinho for £30million in the summer of 2016, has less than 18 months left on his contract and is not a first choice under caretaker boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. He has started just one of Solskjaer’s seven games in charge and was sent off in that. United have an option to extend the Ivorian’s deal by two years, but want to delay a decision until a new permanent manager is in place. Bailly wants to stay at United and prove himself after growing disillusioned under Mourinho. Arsenal need central defensive cover after losing Rob Holding to injury in a game at United before Christmas. Coach Unai Emery has now lost Hector Bellerin too after the right back was ruled out for the season with a knee injury. Emery knows he is limited to loan signings in this transfer window and thought he could exploit the uncertainty over Bailly’s contract. United and Arsenal are scrapping for a place in the top four of the Premier League this season and face each other in the FA Cup at the Emirates on Friday night.

The Judge, Alhaji Inuwa Maiwada, after listening to Adamu, discharged him and warned him not to commit crime again. He ordered him to sign a bond to be of good behaviour. Maiwada also ordered the police to release the car to the defendant. The Prosecuting Counsel, Mrs Ijeoma Ukagha, had told the court that one Ugochukwu Ogbonna, a Mobile Police Officer attached Utako Police Station, reported the matter at the station. “They were at a check point when the officer stopped the man to search his car and discovered that the man had no driver’s licence, and the car was later ta

The 31-year-old is a free agent after leaving Chinese Super League side Tianjin Teda this month. HIGUAIN GIVEN GREEN LIGHT TO FLY TO LONDON FOR HIS MEDICAL AT CHELSEA

Image
Gonzalo Higuain has been given the all-clear to fly out to London, as Milan, Juventus and Chelsea finalised all the details, claim Sky Sport Italia. The closure came this evening and Higuain is expected to wait until the morning so he can fly to London on a regular airline rather than take a private jet this late at night. If Higuain’s contract is registered by midday on Wednesday, then he will be eligible to play against Tottenham on Thursday. However, it’d be a tight squeeze to get the medical done and contract registered. The domino effect was sparked by Milan agreeing a €35m deal with Genoa for Krzysztof Piatek, who is arriving in Milan this evening and will have his medical tomorrow morning. Milan therefore interrupt the Higuain season-long loan, paying €9m rather than €18m, with €36m option to buy from Juventus.

REAL MADRID TO OFFER JUVENTUS 90M POUNDS FOR DYBALA

Image
Real Madrid are preparing a £90million bid for Juventus striker Paulo Dybala. Dybala, 25, has become a key part of Massimiliano Allegri’s Italian champions since joining from Palermo in 2015. Real Madrid are understood to want to lure him to Spain where he would be expected to fill the central forward’s position. ‘Real are looking to get their next lot of Galaticos in and Dybala is top of the pile for the summer,’ a source told The Sun. ‘There has been a lot of interest in him over the years but he has always been interested in heading to Real himself. ‘Manchester City have wanted him for a while now as well. Pep was even looking at him while he was at Bayern Munich.’ Juventus have already committed to spending £300,000-a-week on Aaron Ramsey, who joins from Arsenal in the summer. Ramsey could still join Juventus this month should Arsenal find replacements in the loan market.

Student Goes To Jail For Stealing N1.1m In Jos

The Kasuwan Nama Upper Area Court, Jos, on Tuesday sentenced a 28-year-old student, Shamsudeen Suleiman, to one year imprisonment for house breaking and N1.1million theft. The judge, Yahaya Mohammed, said the punishment would serve as deterrent to those who may contemplate committing crime. Mohammed also ordered the convict to pay back N650, 000 to the complainant as restitution, adding that the court was lenient in its judgment because the convict was a first offender. Earlier, the prosecutor, Abubakar Musa, told the court that a case of theft was reported on Dec. 19 2018, at the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Plateau Command, by one Junaidu Ibrahim. Musa said that the convict, a resident of Nassarawa Gwon , broke into the house of the complainant and took a box containing N1.1million. On his arraignment, Suleiman pleaded guilty to the two- count charge which the prosecutor said contravened Sections 287 and 254 of the Penal Code.

Just In: Asuu Gives Condition To End Strike

Image
The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has said the only condition to suspend the ongoing nationwide strike is for the Federal Government to pay, at least, N50 billion Revitalisation Fund; out of one tranche of N220 billion. ASUU national Chairman, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi spoke to newsmen in Ibadan, Oyo State on Sunday, ahead of the union’s scheduled meeting with the federal government on Monday. ASUU said that the federal government must also present concrete evidence of implementation of the promised N20 billion Earned Academic Allowances (EAA) and how the balance of N85 billion would be paid; with timelines. He pointed out that the union and government since the strike started, “have had seven meetings. We have been having promises. We have demanded that some of their promises, which we took back to our members, some items on their list, have been rejected. “And, there have been demands for the review. We want them to pay, immediately, N50 billion as a sign of commitmen

ALLEGRI SPEAKS ABOUT DYBALA, BOATENG AND HIGUAIN

Max Allegri backed Paulo Dybala to become ‘truly great’, urged Emre Can to ‘use the ball quicker’ and hinted Milan did not use Gonzalo Higuain correctly. “The team had a good game, but it wasn’t easy because we came into it from two challenging matches,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia after Juventus’ 3-0 win against Chievo on Monday. “There could’ve been a bit of carelessness, but the lads showed quality and maturity. We risked conceding just once. “It’s a nice win and now we move on. Dybala? Seeing him play like he did is a pleasure. Maybe he’ll be disappointed because he didn’t score, but he’ll become a truly great player. “He can’t be as clear-headed if he plays deeper and gets a bit disheartened, so he must stay on this path. “Ronaldo? I never watch penalties, although he missed one in the morning too. Khedira? He took a blow to the knee and we’ll assess him in the next few hours. “Emre Can? He had a good game, but he must use the ball quicker. Alex Sandro? He’s playing lik

PK BOATENG JOINS BARCELONA ON A LOAN SPELL

Ghanaian forward Kevin-Prince Boateng has joined Barcelona in a shock loan move from Italian side Sassuolo, the Spanish club said on Monday. The leaders of La Liga said in a statement they had agreed on a deal to take Boateng on loan until the end of the season with an option to make the move permanent in the summer. “The agreement includes an eight-million-euro ($9 million) purchase option,” the club said. The arrival of Boateng, 31, will provide much-needed cover for Luis Suarez up front in Ernesto Valverde’s squad following the departure of Munir El Haddadi to Sevilla. Born in Germany, the half-brother of Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng moved back to Serie A last year after helping Eintracht Frankfurt win the German Cup. He has scored five goals in 15 games this season for Sassuolo. “With the experience of playing in four of the biggest leagues in Europe, the Premier League, the Bundesliga, Serie A, and La Liga, he is a man who has scored goals wherever he has been,” FC B

CHELSEA AND ATHLETICO REACH AN AGREEMENT ON MORATA

Image
Chelsea have reached an agreement with Atletico Madrid to allow Alvaro Morata to leave on loan, with the Liga club having a £48.5 million ($62m) option to sign the striker on a permanent basis, Goal understands. Morata had already reached an agreement with Atletico Madrid over his personal terms last week and he is willing to accept a lower contract than his current £120,000 per week Chelsea deal upon the activation of an option to buy. Offloading the 26-year-old striker is also a major step in Chelsea’s bid to take over AC Milan’s loan deal for Gonzalo Higuain, with the Blues having already reached an agreement with the Argentine forward’s parent club Juventus. Like Morata, Higuain has been left out of his team’s latest match, with Milan due to play Genoa on Monday, after Chelsea agreed a six-month loan deal with an option to extend it or sign the striker outright for £32.5 million ($42m). They will also pay Juventus on the basis of appearances, goals and season’s achievements ove

FELIPE LUIZ CALLS FELLOW BRAZILLIAN A SENSATIONAL PLAYER

The Brazil defender defended the Paris Saint-Germain star in the wake of recent criticism Filipe Luis came out in defense of Brazil team-mate Neymar, calling the Paris Saint-Germain star a “sensational guy” despite all of the criticism he receives. Neymar remains among the world’s top players, but also among the world’s most criticized, especially in the aftermath of this past summer’s World Cup. The forward was heavily criticized for his perceived excessive diving, with even Brazilian legend Pele stating that he cannot defend Neymar’s antics. However, Felipe Luis says there’s a much warmer side to Neymar, who he counts among his favourite team-mates. “Neymar and I have a similarity: we are very competitive. He does not like to lose, neither do I,” the Atletico Madrid fullback told Globo Esporte. “In training, because he is so light and dribbling so fast, people are sometimes afraid to get a little stronger with him. I am not! “We have several jokes. I am like this in my day to d

MESSI DESERVES THE BALLON D’OR OR I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT FOOTBALL-FELIPE LUIZ

Image
In a candid interview, the Brazilian put his reputation on the line by backing a club and international rival Atletico Madrid full-back Filipe Luis has weighed in on the 2018 Ballon d’Or debate, insisting that Lionel Messi should have scooped the award ahead of Luka Modric. Winning the Champions League and reaching the final of the World Cup saw the Croatian gifted the coveted honour, with Cristiano Ronaldo and Antoine Griezmann taking second and third place respectively. Kylian Mbappe, who did lift the Kope Trophy, made fourth place for his exploits with Paris Saint-Germain and winning the World Cup, meaning Messi had to settle for fifth. Filipe Luis, however, despite playing for a direct rival of Barca in La Liga, believes that the Argentine’s exploits in 2018 – and indeed for the majority of his career – should have landed him the top spot on the podium. “When I get on the pitch my mission is to not let the opponents do anything, be that Messi or any other player,” the Brazili

IBRAMOVIC REVEALS WHY POGBA HAD A FIGHT WITH MOURINHO

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has admitted Paul Pogba didn’t “feel confidence” from Jose Mourinho and says Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is now letting the midfielder do “whatever” he wants. Ibrahimovic spent a season-and-a-half with the pair at Old Trafford before joining LA Galaxy in 2018. Pogba assumed control of the United dressing room when Ibrahimovic and Wayne Rooney departed, but the Frenchman’s relationship with Mourinho turned toxic towards the end of the Portuguese’s stint. Solskjaer has revived Pogba’s career at the club since replacing Mourinho and Ibrahimovic admits Mourinho and Pogba were barely on speaking terms. “There are these players that need to be free, they need to feel free to do what they are able to do under the disciple of the coach. “Obviously, he has his tactics, he has that, but some players they go above these limits, and you need to let them be free, and I think Paul [Pogba] is one of them. “Paul didn’t feel confidence from the coach, and the coach didn’t feel confide

Chelsea quoted £100m for Coutinho

Image
Chelsea have been in touch with Barcelona over the availability of Coutinho, with the London side being quoted £100m ($130m) for the Brazilian's services, according to the Express. The former Liverpool man had a positive start to life at Camp Nou, but has fallen down the pecking order late, with Ousmane Dembele being preferred in attack. Manchester United are reported to be interested in the 26-year-old, but Chelsea have reportedly not baulked at Barca's valuation of the playmaker, meaning a battle could be on for his signature. It is said that the Liga champions plan to use the money recouped from the sale of Coutinho to help fund Neymar's return to Spain.

Zaha can take over from Hazard at Chelsea’, says former Liverpool star

Image
The former Manchester United winger was a handful for McAteer's former team at the weekendAfter watching Wilfried Zaha terrorise the defence of his former team Liverpool, Jason McAteer believes the Crystal Palace star could be heir to Eden Hazard's throne at Chelsea. The Cote d'Ivoire international - who earned Jurgen Klopp’s praise - was highly influential in Saturday's seven-goal thriller at Anfield, which, unfortunately, swung in favour of the Reds. And McAteer opined that Chelsea - who are battling to keep star man Hazard, with Real Madrid lurking - might find his skills useful if the Belgian opts to leave Stamford Bridge.“If it was Chelsea and Hazard went, and I am not saying he is a Hazard, but I think he could slot in there and be that player to get on the ball for them," McAteer said on LFC TV.Zaha's incredible work at Palace has seen him become subject of transfer speculations, the latest being a big-money lure to China. Prior to that, Palace tied h

CR7⭐ Heads Juventus to SupercoppašŸ†

Cristiano Ronaldo's goal proved decisive as Juventus defeated 10-man AC Milan 1-0 to win the Supercoppa Italiana in Jeddah. The Portugal forward headed through the limp hands of Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma just after the hour, which was enough to settle a low-key affair. Juve could have won by a more comfortable scoreline with Douglas Costa and Joao Cancelo having decent chances, while the Bianconeri twice correctly had goals ruled out for offside before Franck Kessie was deservedly sent off for Gennaro Gattuso's side. Milan, who only named Gonzalo Higuain among the substitutes amid rumours of a move to Chelsea, hit the crossbar through Patrick Cutrone, but that was as close as they came to denying Ronaldo the chance to celebrate his first piece of silverware as a Juve player.    f4fbeb4565f00dd540f1f35d6e9ccfc8fc1bc38f06a04639fd
