On Monday, Frank Lampard will lead Derby County out at Wembley in the Championship Play-Off Final against Aston Villa.
In his first season in the managerial hot-seat, Lampard has proven that he has what it’s got to become one of that rare breed that plays the game at the top level whilst also looking very likely to reach the top level as a manager.
His achievements haven’t gone unnoticed and wit there being an air of uncertainty as to whether Maurizio Sarri will be in charge of Chelsea next season, there is growing speculation that Lampard could well be the Chelsea manager next season
Ahead of the crucial fixture against Aston Villa, the Derby County owner, Mel Morris, as reported by the BBC has spoken about the growing speculation linking Lampard with a return to Stamford Bridge, remarking:
“His style of football has been fantastic.“Frank’s always going to be linked with Chelsea.“Is anyone surprised that lots of people would be interested in him given what he has achieved this season?
“For Frank he should view it as a compliment that he is being connected with that opportunity, but he always will be.”
As for the man who played 649 appearances for the club, he’s remaining coy on the subject and is quoted by the same source, the BBC
“I will sit down with Mel after the game, which was planned before all this talk anyway, to see firstly what the result was on Monday because that’s going to define how we chat.“It’s been a bit of an obvious link all season. It’s maybe because of where we’re at – in the final – and we’re being talked about and I get linked because of my 13 years at the club.“But in terms of how I’m seeing it, I don’t want to think about it, I don’t want to talk about it. I want to talk about Monday.”
Some might say that a return to the club where he became a legend is too early in what is still early days in his managerial role, others will say that Lampard is exactly the right person Chelsea need if we are to suffer a two-window transfer ban with the former midfielder keen to bring youngsters through, something we have a plethora of, whilst also being respected by everyone in the game.
My view is that it is a nailed-on cert that Frank will be coming back and I sincerely hope that he’s sat down by the Chelsea hierarchy and told that he’ll be given a three-year deal and something no other Chelsea manager, in recent times, has had, time to build a side with the occasional failure not leaving his job on a knife-edge.
But are they thoughts you concur with?
