Chelsea vs. Arsenal combined XI: Blues defend, Gunners and Hazard attack
Chelsea and Arsenal face off on Wednesday, May 29, in Baku for the Europa League final. Let’s take a look at the strongest combined XI from the London clubs.
Chelsea and Arsenal appointed new managers to push their teams into the direction of winning trophies. Unai Emery has made the Europa League his own in recent years, while Maurizio Sarri is looking for his first trophy.
Chelsea
Leading the Europa League with seven clean sheets in 12 games and just seven goals conceded, Arrizablaga has been a solid wall for Chelsea, although they have had defensive woes regularly with their leaky defence conceding goals. Arrizabalaga is all-around better than his opposite keepers, Petr Cech and Bernd Leno.
Cesar Azpilicueta: Right Back, Chelsea
Cesar Azpilicueta is a reliable right back and is impeccable with his tackling and positioning. Mr. Reliable for the Blues, Azpilicueta is the only contender for the right back spot as he is the only proper right back from the two teams: Hector Bellerin is injured and can’t play the final, which leaves the spot open for one of the remaining players from the Blues’ 2013 win in this tournament.
Laurent Koscielny: Centre back, Arsenal
Arsenal’s captain is a highly experienced center back, and has been the best of the north London’s defensive pack. Even though he came back from an Achilles injury, he has been a solid defender. Koscielny is a like replacement for Antonio Rudiger in terms of defensive organization, as the German misses the game due to a knee injury.
David Luiz: Centre Back, Chelsea
The Brazilian’s defensive abilities have been questioned all season long. Even in the semi-final against Eintracht Frankfurt, he wasn’t on top of his game, but he made up for it with his goal line clearance and performance in extra time. A ball-playing centre back who can build up play from the deep and is a threat in the box during set pieces, Luiz balances out the more conservative defensive habits of his partners.
Emerson Palmieri: Left back, Chelsea
Emerson has started the last three Europa fixtures and has done a fine job defending the left side. The Italian provides attacking support, as well, with his direct dribbling and crossing. He goes forward often but also makes sure cover back his defensive position in time.k to where he belongs
