Champions League: Rangnick confirms player excluded from Man Utd’s squad to face Young Boys

-
Manchester United manager, Ralf Rangnick, has confirmed that Phil Jones will not be in his side’s squad to face Young Boys in the Champions League on Wednesday night. Clubs in the Champions League are permitted to name 23-man matchday squads in UEFA competitions. But Jones, who is without an appearance in almost two years, was not included in Man United’s Champions League squad. Speaking ahead of the Young Boys clash, Rangnick was quoted by MEN as saying: “The problem is we can only play players who are in the Champions League list. For example, Phil Jones, whom I would love to give game-time to on Wednesday after his long-term injury, unfortunately, he is not on the list [squad], so we have to put our focus on players who will be allowed to play.” He added, “It is possible, I don’t know if we play a completely new ten players because I don’t know if we have enough players on the list, but it’s definitely possible we could play with some new players. “It’s perfectly possible we brin...

Four goals and a red card: Diego Costa's wild night as Atletico Madrid thrash Real Madrid 7-3 - in pictures

Diego Costa had an eventful night for Atletico Madrid on Friday as the best, and worst, traits of his game were on display. The Spaniard scored four times, including a first-half hat-trick, as Atletico humiliated their city rivals Real 7-3 in their pre-season friendly in the United States. The striker struck in the first minute, then struck again in the 28th minute to make it 4-0 after Joao Felix and Angel Correa both netted. He then completed his hat-trick with a penalty on the stroke of half time. A fourth came six minutes after the interval, and Atletico's sixth, and at that point it had been a superb evening for the 30 year old. But then he got embroiled in a clash with Real's Dani Carvajal in the 65th minute, with both men seeing red over the incident.
