Lawyer drags IG, CP to court over killing of 2 FUOYE students

A human rights lawyer, Mr. Morakinyo Ogele, on Thursday, dragged the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, before a High Court in Ado Ekiti, seeking N1 billion in damages over the alleged killing of two students of the Federal University, Oye Ekiti (FUOYE). Also joined in the suit is the Commissioner of Police in Ekiti. The late students, Kehinde Dada, a 100 level student of the Department Agriculture and Horticulture and Okonofua Joseph, a 300 level Biology Education student, were both hit by bullets, allegedly fired by the police and died. The students were protesting over epileptic power supply in the university. FUOYE protest: Management raises hope of resumption ...Promises justice to students, says students' union activities remain suspended

resumption of normal academic activities was on Friday raised by the management of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) as the panel earlier set up to investigate events leading to the tragedy that greeted the September 10 bloody protest by the students, has submitted its report. Two students of FUOYE, Joseph Okonufua and Dada Kehinde, were shot dead allegedly by security agents during a protest by the students to press home their demand for adequate power supply by the Benin Electricity  Distribution Company (BEDC) to the twin campuses of Ikole and Oye and their environs. A press statement on Friday from the office of FUOYE’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Geoffrey Bakji, said the university management team had paid warm visits to the parents of the deceased and had since put in place an investigative panel.
